Having a dental emergency can be highly stressful, especially if you are in pain. Our top emergency dentist, Dr. Gerald Regni, DMD provides emergency dental treatment 24/7 for you and your family in Philadelphia, PA.

As a holistic dentist, one of the things that sets Dr. Regni apart is that even during an emergency, his focus is to make sure the emergency treatment we offer is beneficial for your general health as well as your smile. Our team uses special tools that protect both your mouth and your body.

What sort of events might qualify as a dental emergency? Experiencing a painful toothache, breaking a permanent tooth or having it knocked out, even losing a filling or crown. If you have a swollen jaw or face, or bleeding gums after having dental work (or bleeding that won’t stop), you should be seen. If you have any questions or concerns about your oral health please don’t hesitate to give us a call to find out if you need immediate treatment.

So what should you do if a dental emergency arises? First things first, stay calm! Anxiety can trigger responses that might worsen your symptoms, so take a deep breath, slowly let it out, and focus on being present just for just this moment. From there you can take correct action that supports your wellbeing. Call us immediately and we will direct you to further action.

Meanwhile, there are some things you can do before you are seen:

– For general swelling, pain, or bleeding, you can apply a cold compress to the area.
– For swelling and pain, you can gently swish your mouth with warm saltwater (add a teaspoon of salt to a glass).
– If a tooth has fallen out, place it in a glass of milk or even your saliva to keep the roots moist and avoid touching the fragile roots.
– If there is pain around a tooth, check to see if there is something lodged between the teeth or gums and gently floss to loosen it and see if that provides relief.
