If you have been diagnosed with gum disease, our dentist may recommend one of our many periodontal treatments. One of the most common is a gingivectomy. In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Dr. Gerald Regni, Jr. uses this procedure to address some of the core causes of gingivitis and other gum diseases. Schedule a gingivectomy today and call 215-351-9399!
To prevent the spread of gum—also known as periodontal—disease, our practice offers effective treatments, procedures and therapies at our office. One of these treatments we often use are gingivectomies. Also known as flap surgery or pocket reduction, this procedure can be used to treat the source and symptoms of periodontal disease.
The naturally occurring bacteria within the mouth produce an acidic material that can infect the soft tissue and cause gum disease. Gingivectomies clean and remove disease-causing calculus and buildup from the tooth surface that lies beneath the gums. Because this is a surgical procedure, our dentist and our team will administer an anesthetic. After the anesthetic has taken effect, our dentist will gently lift and position the gum tissue so the underlying tooth surface can be cleaned and treated with an antimicrobial agent. The gum tissue is then replaced and sutured so that it can heal normally.
