Dental implants restore function and preserve bone health. This restorative procedure is currently considered the best way to replace missing teeth. Dr. Gerald Regni has successfully performed dental implant surgery for over 1,000 patients at our Philadelphia, PA, practice. With a focus on holistic dentistry, Dr. Regni uses only the safest biocompatible materials. Our team can both place and restore implants for convenient, streamlined care.
Preparation for Surgery
Dental implants provide numerous benefits over alternative teeth replacement options. However, before moving forward with implant placement, you must first undergo a full examination with Dr. Regni to determine your candidacy and develop an appropriate treatment plan. During this visit, he will carefully assess your teeth and gums. With the use of digital diagnostic tools, Dr. Regni can also evaluate the health of your jawbone and determine the optimal number and type of implants necessary for your needs.
Dr. Regni has successfully performed over 1,000 dental implant cases.
During the consultation, Dr. Regni will also establish if any preparatory procedures are necessary. For example, some patients may require extractions prior to their implant surgery. Additionally, if your bone has atrophied, a bone graft or sinus lift may be necessary to add height and width to the jawbone so that an implant can be safely placed.
The Dental Implant Placement Process
When you arrive the day of your surgery, you will be escorted to one of our treatment rooms. If you choose to receive sedation, the medications will be administered so you can begin to relax as our surgical team prepares. Although every treatment plan will be fully customized to meet the needs of the individual, general steps include:
- Local Anesthesia: Local anesthesia will be administered to numb the teeth and gums and keep you comfortable throughout the procedure.
- Incisions: Dr. Regni will create one or more small openings in the soft tissue to access the underlying jawbone.
- Placement: The dental implants will be carefully placed into the jawbone using precise, gentle techniques.
- Stitches: Once the implants are in place, the surgical site will be closed with stitches in order to protect the area and encourage healing.
In some cases, a temporary restoration may be attached to the post. This will remain in place for the duration of the healing process.
Implant Placement and Restoration
During surgery, the implant is placed directly into the jawbone.
Nutritional Counseling to Promote Healing
Once the implants have been placed, it typically requires four to six months for the treatment site to heal. During this time, osseointegration will occur, a process in which the jawbone will fuse to the dental implants. This will provide optimal stability for your restoration once the healing period is complete. In addition to following the provided post-operative instructions closely, we also believe in the importance of healing the body from the inside out. As a holistic dentist, Dr. Regni provides patients with an individualized clinical nutrition program to promote healing and accelerate the recovery process.
