Natural, Holistic DentistryFor over 23 years Philadelphia dentist, Dr. Gerald Regni, has been using healthy, natural methods to treat tooth decay, gum disease, and every sort of malfunction of the teeth, mouth, gums and jaw. With extensive research and training in the fields of biological dentistry and implant dentistry, Dr. Regni is able to bring to his patients a healthy, pain-free alternative to conventional dental treatment.
What is Natural (Holistic) Dentistry?Holistic dentistry is more comprehensive and complete than traditional dentistry, because a Holistic Dentist acknowledges and deals with the entire patient, not just his or her “teeth.”
As a Holistic Dentist, Dr. Regni uses techniques, materials, methods, and processes that are both safe and compatible with the mouth and the body. His goal is to promote your overall health through safe, natural treatment of your mouth, teeth, and gums, and to enable your body to heal itself through a personally-designed clinical nutrition program.
Our dedication to natural, healthy dental care means that we will take extra care to use only dental materials that are compatible with your body chemistry, including biocompatible fillings, crowns, inlays and onlays. We don’t use mercury amalgam (“silver”) fillings, and we can safely and rapidly replace your current amalgam fillings that could be causing you a wide variety of health problems.
Replacing Mercury FillingsAmalgam (“silver”) fillings were in common use for many years, but they are no longer necessary. Studies have shown that over time, these fillings can release mercury vapor, which is highly toxic. Dr. Regni himself suffered from the harmful effects of having mercury fillings. Because of his own experience, he has been very active in educating others on the harmful effects that these fillings can cause.
One way to avoid mercury toxicity is to have mercury-free fillings used in restorations, like we do in our office. If you already have mercury amalgam fillings, removal and replacement with non-mercury-containing material can reverse some of the effects of mercury contamination. Dr. Regni uses only tooth-colored fillings made of materials that are compatible with your biochemistry, as well as aesthetic in appearance.
Gum Disease and its Effects on the BodyTreating gum disease is a vital part of a dentists job. We take that very seriously as healthy teeth and gums mean much more than a pretty smile. According to recent research, poor oral health and serious health problems often go hand in hand.
Periodontal disease (inflammation or degeneration of the gums and bones supporting the teeth) affects 75% of Americans over age 55, causing 25% of them to lose their teeth.
